Canyoneering in June

So I get a call from my cousin Brian Farr inviting me do go down a new canyon that nobody really knows a lot about.  Knowing I could use a little adventure I started to get excited about such a trip.  Brain said that before I made my decision he wanted me to read about a group that got stuck in this same canyon and it took 2 rescue teams over 30 hours to get them out (even with a helicopter).  After reading about this unfortunate event I knew what I had to do.  I dug out all our life insurance policies and placed them  in a spot Becca would be sure to find them and started packing.

There were over 15 times we had to take the ropes out to get down.  Here was a rather long rappel that required we slip down a small hole in the rock.  It was really cool.

At first I was going to just wear a shorty wet suit and consider myself good.  With it being the middle of June I figured the water couldn't be too cold?  I was dead wrong.  Had I not had the full 7mm wetsuit that 40 something degree water would have made for a rough trip.  The guy on the right had a full wetsuit on but it was only 3mm thick.  There were many times I would be standing next to him and I could hear all his hardware rattling from all the shivering he was doing.

My cousin Brian making sure we get down safe

Boy was it good to be in the sun again!

It was a beautiful walk out
Special thanks to Brian and his friends for a great trip!
